Boxed Goods Collection Days

How to Check a Boxed Product Before Collection

Open each box before deciding it is ready to go. Products stored for months can become separated from their accessories, and packaging may conceal moisture damage or broken parts. Put the contents on a clear surface and compare them with the description on the box or the parts list, if one is available.

Decide whether the item is genuinely suitable for reuse. Look for cracks, corrosion, loose components and signs of contamination. For electrical products, follow the receiving organisation's testing requirements; a quick visual inspection is not proof of safety. Do not pass on a product known to be unsafe or subject to an unresolved safety recall.

Match the item to the collection's accepted categories. Food, cosmetics, cleaning products and other sealed goods may have rules covering dates, storage conditions and opened packaging. If the instructions are unclear, ask the organiser before packing them. Keep leaking containers and unidentified substances out of a general goods collection.

Repack accepted items so they stay together during handling. Wrap fragile pieces individually, secure small fittings in a labelled bag and fill large gaps with suitable packing material. Mark the outside with a brief contents list and any handling information the organiser requests. Remove old delivery labels if they contain personal information.

Finish with a handover check. Make sure the box can be lifted safely, the base is secure and the label is readable. Keep any requested booking reference or item list ready. If a box is declined on the day, take it back and confirm an appropriate alternative rather than leaving it at the collection point.
